Last October, the SMERU Research Institute hosted a series of Forum Kajian Pembangunan (FKP) seminar. FKP is a consortium consisting of various institutions in Indonesia in collaboration with the Indonesia Project (Australian National University).  The main objective of this event is to bring together researchers, academics, experts, civil society, the international community, and policymakers to discuss research outcomes related to topical policy issues in Indonesia.

In this year's FKP we made a slight change compared to what we did in the previous years. Speakers at several FKP sessions are now not only SMERU researchers but also representatives from government institutions, academics, and experts on development issues. By doing that, we expect to see an exchange of information and thorough discussions on policy development in Indonesia. In addition, the topics at FKP seminars are quite diverse and specific, such as inequality reduction policies, leadership in schools, school sanitation, youth and sustainable development goals, employment, and a reflection after three years of the Village Law implementation.

Overall, the FKP seminar series was attended by around 300 participants, consisting of ministry staff, policymakers, academics, donor agencies, NGOs, practitioners, the private sector, the media, and experts on development issues. The program was also broadcast via live streaming—with a total of 612 views—and covered by a national print media and an online media. In addition, the Economics Study Program (Faculty of Economics and Business) of Hasanuddin University had their students watch two FKP sessions via live streaming for their two class: (i) Human Resources and Employment and (ii) Natural Resources and Environment.
